Basic Installation Procedures
- Sub-Grade Preparation
Trail or pathway applications shall have a minimum cross slope of 1 1/2 percent and shall be compacted to a minimum of 90 percent. The finished sub-grade shall be uniform and free of deleterious debris such as organic materials, nails, stones and loose soil. Prior to placement of NexPave™ presoak all areas of application.
- Curbing and Edging
The uses of a curb or edging are not required. If utilized, compacted NexPave™ should be not more than ¼ inch below the top of the curbing or edging.
- Spread & Compact NexPave™ Pathway Mix
Spread material as desired to achieve a uniform smooth finish. For a final depth of two inches compacted, place material to a loose depth of +/- four inches. Compact with a +/- three-ton roller. Do not use the vibration mode on the roller drums. This may cause the binder to separate from the aggregate and discolor the material. If material is sticking to the roller drums then first lightly compact with a hand roller. A light misting of water may also aid in compaction. In small areas that are difficult to access a vibratory plate compactor can be used with multiple passes required. Once compacting is completed the material should be firm and it should be noted that the material will continue to harden in areas of frequent use.
- Maintenance
In areas of vehicular use and/or with continued exposure to dirt and debris, surface darkening may occur. Scarifying the surface 1/8 – inch with a nail drag or similar will quickly clean the surface and expose the fresh underlying material. This procedure will become less frequent over time.
- Repairs
In areas of repair remove the damaged material. With a shovel square the corners and edges. Lightly moisten the exposed base and edges. Replace the area of repair with fresh NexPave™ and compact as instructed above.
